Our horse community is composed of diverse equestrians, clubs, groups, organizations, professionals, all doing fantastic things on their own. But the time has come to join together to take a stand against the development overtaking our community and shape the forward progress with our needs in the mix. United, we are stronger, our voices are louder, and we will be more effective accomplishing our collective goals.
There are big and small ways you can get involved. We are looking to expand our team and can pair you with whatever task suits your interest and time. Or, we will announce projects and events that need participation from our equestrian community. Please contact us if you'd like to inquire about joining our team, and sign up on our email list for updates. You can also follow us on our Facebook Group page, Community Equestrian Arvada.
We encourage our horse organizations to assign a member to be our liaison and be the link between us for sharing and coordinating information. Together we are stronger.
Examples of Equestrian Centers Owned by City, Operated Under Lease
There are many equestrian centers owned by cities and counties across the United States. We used google search to find the examples below; many came up searching for “city owned equestrian centers,” but many we found indirectly through newspaper articles, examples of equestrian center design from designers and planners, and RFP listings from cities. 10 are listed here, but there are many more. A few pertinent observations in our research:
● A few were developed by the cities in partnership with stakeholders, but most were acquired by municipalities already built.
● Some had improvements made or paid for by the cities they were in. Some had improvements made or paid for by grants, donations, or fundraising.
● All of them identified here are leased to operators, either for profit or non-profit, entities. None are being operated by city departments.
● Most offer boarding. ● Some riding centers are just facilities without a boarding component.
● Some of the examples found offer programs like riding lessons, summer camps, or therapy programs.
● We could not find specific information on the leases between the operators and their municipal landlords.
But we did find news articles describing the changing of operators and some RFPs inviting proposals, all seem to support long (10 years or more) lease terms.
Community Equestrian is willing to donate their time, equestrian experience and expertise, and networking resources to help the City of Arvada develop a meaningful plan for this equestrian center and help bring in qualified candidates for consideration.
